Sherril Steele-Carlin with Education World, who wrote Get Outta Class With Virtual Field Trips, talks about what a great experience virtual field trips can be. If, as a teacher, you want to take your students on a field trip, but the school’s budget is too tight, or the timing on things would not work out well, then a virtual field trip is your answer. Virtual field trips are designed to be educational and entertaining. There are virtual field trips up on the web for every grade level, and that go to many different places, so the trip can cater to whichever subject is being taught. Even though the students are still sitting in the classroom, the whole world is opened up to them through the computer. In the article, Steele-Carlin quotes a Maine high school student, Emily, about the virtual field trip she just took to the Natural Wonders of the World. "It's better in that I could view each place in my own time; I wasn't rushed through, like on many field trips. I would gladly go on this type of field trip [again]. It saves time and money and is very convenient," Emily stated. By taking students on a virtual filed trip instead of a regular field trip, learning time is utilized for the students. No time is wasted loading a school bus or van, the travel time is cut out, the weather isn’t a problem, and the students can go at their own pace, and really make sure they get all that they can out of the “trip”. The virtual field trips include auditory and visual aids to help students learn. Virtual field trips are partially so great because students can go to places that they may never have been able or ever will be able to go to. For example, a virtual trip to a dairy farm, Antarctica, and even to the solar system! Anyone “who is even remotely computer savvy can create a virtual field trip!” When you go a field trip with your students, or even just a trip, simply snap some pictures! Upload “them to your class or school Web site” and just like that, you have created your very own virtual field trip. You also can have your future classes go on these virtual field trips and you can share with them your very own stories of when you visited there. Steele-Carlin also set up links at the end of her article that can provide further instruction and ideas for virtual field trips. This article is great if you want to take your students on, or create your own virtual field trip.
Here is the link for the article, enjoy!

This article was very popular. I agree virtual field trips cut time and maximize student's opportunity to take in the information. The possibilities for a field trip are endless. I really like the idea of the solar system one. Good job.
This article is very popular. I totally love that virtual field trips do not waste time and we can go on it again as many times as we want. I think this is a good way for kids who are unfortunate enough to not go on real trips, plus they can learn more and pay attention more without being rushed.
I liked your article as everyones group we all found very similar ones. I like how your article explains how to create your own field trip. I think the virtual field trips are a great idea for the learning environment.
I liked how you kept the blog very short and to the point. I think it might have looked better broken up with some pictures. But other than that the information was very thorough and you made very good points.
My group (as well as almost all of the other groups!) had the same article as you. It was a very informative article. It's interesting to see what each group got out of the article.
After this assignment, I really like the idea of virtual field trips in addition to regular field trips. It sounds like a great way to teach!
Good Job!!!
So I think everyone picked the same article! But thats because it was really good! Your summery had great points but it would have been better if you broke it up a little more into different sections or something! It was really good but since everyone chose the same article, most of the groups added a little more to make them spark! I thought your summery was really good though! Great Work Team Three!
Wow! It seems as if almost everyone picked the same article, which is fine because there we all get to see so many views on one article. Great job team 3!!
First of all I really like your teams background...I like the polka dots. I also like how you mentioned that future classes can go on these fieldtrips, I personally think it would be neat to observe the differences as the years pass maybe show a class the same fieldtrip, but how is was 10 years prior. Great job guys.
When I am finally a teacher, I will take my class on a virtual field trip. The hard part will be deciding where to go. Maybe we will do one in the fall and one in the spring. I especially like the point you made about a virtual field trip enabling students (and their families) the benefits of a trip without the expenses.
Good article to make virtual field trips sound appealing. You mentioned a lot of the positives of virtual field trips such as timing and if the schoold budget is too tight. A good comment was that even though the students are still in the classroom, the whole world is open up to them.
You made a lot of good points in your post. I liked what you said about if a school is on a budget its still possible to show the students the outside world. Good post!
Haha, this must have been a popular article. Thats Okay though because it gave an an insight to the manby different things you can get out of the same thing. Becasue although many of us had the same article, non of usreally had the same blog. This is another prime example of the glory of education. What you say to the "class" may be interpreted 30 different ways, so ytou have to really watch what you say...and try to make it as clear as possible. I dont want to repeaqt myself, BUT- i still am a big faqn of the whol technology in education thing and can see numerous reasons why virtual field trips are definatly a wonderful edition to the many tools we use in education.
"When you go a field trip with your students, or even just a trip, simply snap some pictures" It is just that easy to create your own virtual field trip so that future students that come along have a chance to visit a place that might not allways be around.
